With a diverse and growing economy, Ashtabula County offers the infrastructure and amenities of a major metropolitan setting in a small town community. Ashtabula County has been recognized as one of the top micropolitan areas for business growth and investment in the US for the last three years (2011– 2013).

Ashtabula County has a strong industrial legacy that continues to adapt and evolve. Today it has growing clusters in plastics, polymers and chemicals. The county’s access to rail, highway and port transportation continues to make it an ideal location for companies from a logistics and distribution standpoint.

Ashtabula County also features a rapidly growing tourism industry built on the recreational opportunities of Lake Erie and the county’s status as the top grape growing and wine producing county in Ohio. There are now 20 wineries that flourish in the microclimate created by Lake Erie and the Grand River Valley. Additionally, the world class athletic facilities at SPIRE Institute bring in athletes and spectators from across the region and country. SPIRE is quickly becoming a major hub for major college and amateur athletic events.

Agriculture is the second largest economic industry in the county. The southern portion of the county is ideal for corn, soybeans and dairy farming in addition to the vineyards and
orchards that thrive in the Lake Erie microclimate.
